Trail Etiquette for Mountain Bikers
- Yield to Other Trail Users – Always give the right of way to hikers and equestrians. Slow down, announce your presence, and pass safely.
- Be Mindful Around Horses – Horses can be easily startled. Stop, speak calmly, and wait for guidance from the rider before passing.
- Stay on Designated Trails – Ride only on marked MTB trails to protect the environment and avoid damaging sensitive areas.
- Control Your Speed – Keep your speed in check, especially on blind corners and technical sections. Ride within your skill level.
- Ride Predictably – Avoid sudden stops or erratic movements to prevent collisions with other riders and trail users.
- Don’t Skid or Cut Switchbacks – Skidding and shortcutting trails lead to erosion and trail damage. Ride responsibly to maintain the trails.
- Respect Trail Closures & Signage – If a trail is closed, stay off it. Obey posted signs for safety and conservation.
- Communicate with Other Riders – Use verbal cues or a bell to signal passing and let others know your intentions.
- Pack Out What You Pack In – Leave no trace. Carry out all trash and respect nature.
- Be Prepared – Carry essential tools, water, and first aid. Know your route and be ready for changing conditions.
